I looked up at the building with nothing but a sense of trepidation. It was my dream to be discovered and become a world renown singer, but I was scared. They were holding open auditions today at Radical Records and I could already see that the lobby was filled with people. Some held guitars that they were tuning, others had drum sticks, and then there were the ones that were listening to Ipods and singing along. There were just so many people and I had infinite doubts about my ability.

"Gonna just stand there all day or are you going in?" someone asked and I looked over at the sound. I saw a black tank top with a red anarchy symbol painted on the front of it before following it up to a black studded collar and then a really handsome face. I nodded slowly, suddenly finding myself without a voice as I looked into gorgeous blue eyes framed by black hair, streaked with more blue. "Yes, you're going to stand there all day or yes, you're going in?" he asked, a smirk breaking up those perfect features.

"Going... in..." I breathed, a blush darkening my cheeks as I finally pulled my eyes away from him. He chuckled and I felt his hand grab my arm gently, pulling me towards the doors.

"Then let's head inside," he said as if was perfectly natural and I was someone he had known for years. I let him drag me into the building my rooted feet following without a thought and up to the counter to sign in for the auditions. To my surprise, the hottie signed in on a different sheet and clipped an ID badge to his belt before heading off down a hall. I guess that meant he was already signed to the label.

I was handed a name tag and directed to have a seat to wait my turn. Vocalists were being auditioned separate from instruments and apparently, most of the people here were auditioning for vocals. I sighed, finding myself a seat before plugging my own Ipod into my ears to drown out the noise in the room. I had no intentions of adding to the din and closed my eyes to wait my turn. It took hours and I saw many people leave angry or in tears and it only made my apprehension grow worse.

"Kelsea Oslen?" a man said from the doorway and I perked up without meaning to. "Come with me," he said, motioning for me to follow and I grabbed my backpack to hurriedly chase after him. My hands were shaking with nervousness as I was led to a sound booth. Sitting behind the sound board were several people, all of them looking at me with interest. "What are you planning to sing for us, Kelsea?" the man who'd led me back here asked as he took up one of the empty chair.

"Falling by Heaven's Door," I replied, shifting my weight nervously from one foot to the other. Eyebrows went up, but the person sitting by the sound board nodded and held out his hand for my Ipod.

"I'll get it set up for you," he said as I handed over my Ipod and went into the booth. I put the headphones on and closed my eyes to block out everything other than the music. As the music started, my foot began to tap and I patted my hand on my leg for the beat.

"I saw you standing there, with all your fans
I told myself that I wouldn't get too close
But then the music hit and you started to dance
All my resolve melted away with the first note

And I started falling...
Falling...
Falling...

I was falling for the angel on the dance floor
Falling deeper into the black hole
You sucked me in like all the others before
Pulling me deeper under your control

And I was falling...
Falling...
Falling...
I was falling for you...

I tried to resist the allure of you...
I tried to resist to save my soul...
But I couldn't help myself...
I was fully under your control...

And I was falling...
Falling...
Falling...
Deeper in love with you

Yeah, I was falling....
Falling...
Falling...

I was falling deeper in love with you..."
I let the last notes trail off and slowly opened my eyes. Everyone sitting outside was smiling with wide eyes. I could only guess that they'd liked what they heard and a small smile crept onto my face.

"That was excellent," someone said and I found myself blushing. "How are you at adapting to new music?"

"Alright, I guess," I replied, putting my hand to the headphones so I could hear them better. The one closest to the door of the booth got up and came in to hand me a sheet with a song on it that I'd never heard before. My Ipod was removed from the sound board and a CD was put in. I had to sit back for a minute, listening to the music as I read over the lyrics and notes in front of me. They let me listen to it fully two times through before they wanted me to try singing it.

"I thought we were perfect together
I thought we had everything
I could see our future together
It was so strong, I could buy the ring

But then you shattered my world
You said there was someone new
You took your light from my world
How could you be so cruel?

You left me cold and alone
You left me broken and dazed
I stand in the remnants of our home
Trying to sift through the haze

The pictures on the walls
Show a life that was a lie
A life for which my heart calls
I'm so shattered I could die

You left me cold and alone
You left me broken and dazed
I stand in the remnants of our home
Trying to sift through the haze

I try to pick up the pieces
But everywhere I turn
I can only see your face
It tears me apart, makes me burn

You left me broken and dazed.
I'm trying to see through the haze

I can't find any salvation
I'm frozen in time and place
My heart's gone on vacation
And I'm left with a bitter taste

You left me cold and alone
To suffer in what was once our home..."
I was a little more uncomfortable when I finished this song, unsure if I had gotten the style down right. It was a lot harder when you didn't have a singer to listen to to gauge how I was supposed to do it. I looked up sharply at the sound of whistles and applause to see a couple of boys standing behind the sound board. I blushed darkly, especially when I noticed the hottie from this morning standing there.

"Steve, put him on the list," the hottie said, smiling a little coyly.

"The list?" I echoed in confusion.

"Yeah, we're trying to put a band together," the man behind the sound booth said. "But we don't want them to not be able to get along and end up breaking up during their first tour. So we're taking all the qualified prospects and putting them into a house together until those who can't get along are weeded out." I bit my lip a little nervously.

"Something wrong, Kelsea?" the man who'd led me back here asked and I nodded slowly.

"I... I'm the legal guardian... for my little brother," I replied, taking the headphones off and stepping out of the booth. "I can't... abandon him for a chance at a chance..." I sighed, taking my Ipod from the sound board and picked up my bag. "I'm sorry for wasting your time," I said quickly and left before my tears could fall. I rushed out of the building and to the bus stop before I finally let the tears fall. I was doing everything I could to keep Kasen and I afloat and I had just had my dreams dashed because of it.

"Kelsea! Kelsea, wait!" I heard someone yell as the bus pulled up. I turned to see the hottie running over to me, seeming a little panicked and even a little relieved. "Kelsea, don't go yet. I want you to come to the house so I talked to Steve. He said it'd be okay if you brought your brother with you. After all, it'd add to the getting along thing they are trying for right? To get you, we get your brother too."

"Really?" I asked, a little shocked. I quickly brushed my cheeks dry again as he smiled down at me.

"Yes, really," he said. "Now come back inside so you can learn the details of this." I nodded slowly,  letting him lead back into the building and into a large conference room.
mmm well it's an interesting start anyhow...

Making of the Band anyone?
